“We are heightened when our gifts rise from pools we cannot fathom. Then we know we are not a solitary egotism and they are inexhaustible.”
Lewis Hyde
A retrospective of the artwork of Antonia Winsor
In my practice I look for inspiration in the rich multiplicity of natural forms which
are everywhere to be seen; I look at the commonplace, but from a fresh angle; I listen for, and often
sense, new rhythms within the life around me, and most profitably, I allow time for silence, and for
contemplation; at such times, Heaven seems fleetingly to touch the Earth.
Music — its emotion and spirituality undeniably influence and resonate in my thoughts and practice.
Michael Ondaatje wrote: 'We enter art to hide within it.' This is a profound concept for Art
can be an inner sanctuary, a quiet communion with another's thoughts and feelings, in a different
(though not necessarily safe) place.

Previous Exhibitions
October 26th – December 29th
I give special thanks to all artists who have made this a remarkable exhibition and I
am amazed by the variety of styles and interpretation of the theme.
As the year ebbs away it must be about the time for reflection and contemplations;
for a number of artists, such as Helen Naylor and Chris Rose, have explored a spiritual
or meditational dimension. Also in the works of Dan Salway and Joseph Wright, the
viewer is similarly invited to contemplate and discover their personal response to
'abstract' and pictorial landscape.
The mental process of artistic creativity and the questioning as to why does
Man have an innate urge to express and communicate in ways other than language,
is a fundamental concept seen in the work of John Naylor.
Much of what we do as people is based on our response to what is immediately
around us — our intuitive reactions and feelings. However when the extra-ordinary
occurs, and our consciousness is heightened, we remember and visually record that
essential moment: take a look at Clive Rasin's photography and Sam Etchell's 'White House.'
I have recently returned from a trip to Israel and have created work based on this
beautiful landscape and also on the ancient traces of Man's inscriptions, found
near sites of religious significance.
The theme of fragility and mortality is powerfully portrayed in the paintings of Paul Morrison.

Open Summer: August 24th – October 20th
Open Summer is contemporary collection of artwork drawn from all over the East Midlands. For this exhibition the theme was 'open' which produced a tremendously variety of work, ranging from 3D Alabaster and mixed media to traditional oil paint or watercolour. We have featured the work of brilliant new graduates from Loughborough University as well as long seasoned highly skilled amateur artists.
Writing on the Wall: July 6th – August 18th
The latest exhibition from Galerie Resonance has a tremendous variety of form and expression including photography, sand sculpture & textile artwork. Issues explored cover graffiti, consumerism, notions of tradition & ritual and fragmentary traces of personal history in memory and recorded inscriptions.
